Thursday Night Mid-Week Mayhem Series 2016 - MEMBERS ONLY

05 Apr 2016

The Alton Thursday Night Series (Mid-week Mayhem) starts on April 7th running until 26th May.
We would love to get lots of non-racers out with us for this fun series.
It's an all in handicap off one single start at 1800 and we generally finish at or before 1900.
It's very social and great fun.  Any sailing dinghies (or windsurfers) can take part.

We are happy to help with hire boats (speak to the centre) if you need something to sail and there will always be someone to help you understand racing, starting, basic rules and we will even volunteer to helm or crew for you if you need us to.

We do need volunteer OODs for each night (average points if you do it so it doesn't affect your results), so come and try this too, it's the best view of the races and a great way to learn in a safe environment.

Any questions at all ask at the Centre, or speak to Oli or Mark Smith, we are quite friendly so come along and have fun - it's free but for Alton Water members only)!

2016/17 Membership & Dinghy Storage Renewal

01 Mar 2016

Membership and dinghy storage renewals are due by 31st March 2016 in accordance with our rules.

Unfortunately, due to an increase in the rent we pay, 2016/17 charges have had to be increased, however, if membership is taken out or renewed before 31 March 2016, last year's prices will apply (sorry but this doesn't apply to dinghy storage charges).

Frostbite 2016 ‘on-the-day entry’ – now available to be pre-booked on a first come, first served basis

27 Jan 2016

The 2016 Frostbite series is so far an undoubted success and has attracted a greater number of entries than anticipated, especially with respect to the number of ‘on-the-day entries’.

It is disappointing to turn anyone away and we wish to encourage all keen sailors to take part and so rather than declaring the entries closed as we have reached our stated maximum of 120 (which we anticipate includes dormant and subsequent no show entries), we are taking a pragmatic view to allow further entries while expecting to be able to manage the number of boats on the water. In the longer term we will look to encourage series entries such that we can balance fleets and start numbers.

For the remainder of the 2016 Frostbite series:-

  • No further series entries will be accepted
  • Previous day entry does not grant entitlement to subsequent day entry
  • Day entries will be limited to 15 boats (per race day):-
    • entry booking available from the Centre (see web site / or telephone) with payment to be made
    • bookings open on Monday for the following Sunday’s racing
    • first come first served
    • only one week to be booked at a time
    • no exceptions to this day entry arrangement for race card holders

The management team, whilst recognising the inconvenience of weekly booking, wish to give an opportunity to all local sailors to have the opportunity to experience the Alton Water Frostbite series.
