The Frostbite Series 2019

25 Nov 2018

The 2019 Frostbite series is an 18 race series with 2 races being held back-to-back each Sunday between 6th January and 3rd March 2019 (weather permitting).
As for previous years, the series is being sponsored by Fox's Chandlery and we thank them for their continued support.

The first races of the 2019 Frostbite series will be held on Sunday 6th January 2019, first start no earlier than 11am.

This is always a very popular series, so to ensure entry, please complete pre-entry and payment on-line by clicking here.

If you already have a username and password, on-line entry is available as above, along with the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions.

For those who wish to enter on-line but do not have a username or password, please look here to get instructions on how to set them up, then use the link above to enter.

PLEASE NOTE, when entering on-line, make sure you're looking at 2019 events, otherwise you may end up entering our Winter Series in error!

In addition to on-line pre-entry and payment, a completed entry form must be submitted on first registration for the series. An entry form can be downloaded here.

Following the success of previous Frostbite series where we had an unprecedented demand for entries, we intend to continue to encourage series entrants while not excluding a limited number of day entries.

Once we reach our maximum series entry of 120 boats:-

  • No further series entries will be accepted
  • Day entries will be limited to 15 boats (per race day):-
    • entry booking available from the Centre (see web site / or telephone) with payment to be made
    • bookings open on Monday for the following Sunday's racing
    • first come first served
    • only one week to be booked at a time
    • no exceptions to this day entry arrangement for race card holders

The management team, whilst recognising the inconvenience of weekly booking, wish to give an opportunity to all sailors to have the opportunity to experience the Alton Water Frostbite series.

Dear Members,

The purpose of this message is to brief you on the current status of our discussions with Anglian Water regarding the future of water sports at Alton Water.

The trustees have been in negotiation with Anglian Water over the terms of a new lease at Alton Water following the expiry of our previous lease at the end of August 2018. The new draft lease provided by Anglian Water contained significant changes to the previous lease and our solicitors advised us to continue negotiating with Anglian Water as those changes would significantly impact on the ability of AWSC to trade effectively over the longer term. In the meantime we presented a credible business plan to Anglian Water as a basis for our request for improved lease terms.

Anglian Water has now indicated that they will initiate a break clause effective from 31 March 2019 and that they intend to run water sports from Alton Water directly and not via AWSC as had previously been the case. Many details are still unclear and we are working on your behalf to understand what their intentions mean for AWSC and particularly for you as our members.

The Trustees have yet to decide how to respond to this situation and are taking independent legal advice. In the meantime, we will continue to plan for the next season and understand that Anglian Water will honour commercial decisions taken by AWSC in good faith on normal commercial terms.

We understand that this includes membership (access to the water), storage and training.

We appreciate that this news comes on top of a very poor summer due to the blue green algae but we will update you with progress as and when we are able. We will hold two General Meetings at AWSC later this month where you can express your views and suggestions. These will be at 2.30pm on Sunday 25th November and at 7pm Monday 26th November.

We think it is really important that you attend one of these meetings. Your opinion is important and could help determine the future of water sports at Alton Water. However, any immediate thoughts can be sent to

Yours sincerely,

Mark Hainsworth – Chair of Trustees.

Winter Series 1&2 Sunday 28th October

19 Oct 2018

Dear All,

Due to the 300 and Phantom open this weekend we have decided to move races one and two of the winter series to the 28th of October. We had planned to do some race training in place but unfortunately we haven't had the numbers to make that available.

Looking forward to seeing you all on the 28th.
