Normally swimming at Alton Water is strictly prohibited.  However on one weekend per year, we go mad!  This is because we are very proud to have been selected as the venue for:

The Great East Swim

Entries have opened for the 2010 British Gas Great East Swim.  The inspiring swim will return to Alton Water, near Ipswich on Saturday 19 June. Enter online at www.greatswim.org .

The inaugural British Gas Great East Swim took place in the summer and was a huge success with just under 1500 swimmers taking the plunge.

The one-mile public swimming event took place in picturesque Alton Water reservoir and attracted swimmers of all shapes and sizes from a 36 year old mother or three with a fear of deep water to an 86 year old Grandad . In addition to the masses, many of the world's top swimmers and Olympic heroes battled it out to take the honours in the elite races.

The event is part of the British Gas Great Swim series- four one-mile outdoor swims staged in some of the most stunning locations in the UK.
