Alton Water is proud to announce the continuation of our Alton Water Sailing Academy (AWSA) during the 2013 season. Established by volunteer members, our aim is to provide dinghy race coaching for members that wish to improve their dinghy racing skills.
AWSA will be run on a cost recovery basis only. Alton Water and Sport England are providing seed investment to get this initiative going, to help make the necessary level of investment in training craft and support safety boats.
Younger members that wish to do so, can learn to compete at the highest possible Junior and Youth levels. For these younger members, our training will draw heavily on tried and trusted RYA methods and will be designed to set them off on the pre-Olympic pathway.
If you are not yet a member of Alton Water don't worry, joining is easy and inexpensive. Details of our membership rates and how to pay can be found here
. Once you are a member, you are then eligible to join in with AWSA activities.
Alton Water Sailing Academy is building on the successful race coaching delivered by volunteers whic has been run each year since 2009. We've listened to the many members who want more of the same and to those who have enjoyed achieving their RYA stage 1 & 2 or NSSA (National Schools Sailing Association) Silver / Gold. The launch of the AWSA means that those new to sailing and who have enjoyed participating in RYA or NSSA training courses, can now join Alton Water and develop their sailing skills at low cost.
For both youth and more mature members who would just like to increase their enjoyment of dinghy racing by improving their technique, we will be offering more varied dinghy race coaching.
Categories of race coaching are listed below; please click on the links to learn more about each of the classes. If you think that you would like to join in, please let us know of your interest right away so that we can plan accordingly.
