Alton Water Youth Page

Hello everyone! My name is Harry Forbes and I sail a Laser Radial and an RS200 at Alton, having learnt to sail there many years ago. You'll often see me racing at the weekends, or coaching the local RS Tera Eastern Squad. I'm very passionate about getting more young people out racing, and hopefully through this page we can set up some great events and opportunities to bring the young sailors at the club together, with the aim of building up the Junior and Youth section.

Anybody interested in youth sailing at Alton please don't hesitate in contacting me. My email address is To get an idea of how many people are interested, please get in touch so I can get a list together of how many boats we could have involved, and also which classes we will have out on the water. It's only early days at the moment, but the more information we can put together about sailors interested the better, as it will help when it comes to organising what Junior training and events will be beneficial to the sailors this summer.

News and Upcoming Events

  • For all you keen sailors, there is racing at the club on Sundays, with slow, medium and fast fleets. Would be great to see lots of people racing on a Sunday as it is a great way to improve your sailing.

Alton Youth Sailors Set the Pace

Taylor_Brothers_NewsAlton Water sailors Will and Matt Taylor won the RS Feva Volvo Grand Prix at Grafham Water last weekend. Beating off 40 of the best Feva sailors in the country, they triumphed to win the event on what was a tricky weekend of light and shifting breezes.

Fellow East Coast training partners Arthur Brown and Niamh Davies from Burnham came second beating members of the RYA National Junior Squad – one of whom was third at last year’s World Championship.

Taylor_Brothers_NewsNext stop for the brothers is the National Championship at Thorpe Bay, Southend over the May Bank Holiday weekend. Then on to the final event of the Grand Prix Series at Weymouth. They currently lie third in the overall series with it all to play for.  After that they travel to Tuscany in Italy for the  World Championships, where up to 200 entries are expected.

Will Taylor was the 2011 World Champion in the RS Tera Class which is a feeder to the RS Feva Class. Will is currently coaching the Eastern Tera Squad at Alton Water ahead of their World Championships in Weymouth in July.
