Fox's Marine and Country - Demystifying Racing 1st, 8th and 22nd April 2017

23 Feb 2017

Aimed at those new to racing or returning after a break from the sport we are running a series of informal sessions through April aimed at demystifying racing.
The sessions will give insight into starting and the signals used, we will also discuss the basic rules of the sport and the process of refereeing our actions.

It won’t all be jaw, we will do a lot of exercises on the water and some short course races to demonstrate what we’ve discussed. We’ll look at how a dinghy works, what makes a boat go slow and what makes it go more quickly both in terms of set up and the techniques used in the boat.

At the end of each session we’ll have a debrief over tea and cakes. We hope to find who makes the best cakes and improve our sailing. On the last day we’ll have a mini regatta with fun races.

The sessions are free to all club members all are welcome.
Start time 1300 – Meet outside the clubhouse changed with your boat (sails down).
Debrief Tea and cake at 1600

To enable us to judge numbers anyone wishing to attend sign up on our Alton Water Sailing FaceBook page (there will be a proper Alton entry form to follow), please let us know the type of boat you are sailing, give us some indication of your level of experience and which of the three afternoons you can make.

Volunteers for cake baking are needed too!

Entry via the website is here. Please complete an Entry Form and bring it with you on your first session.
